Coconut Husk Kitchen Scourers

Eco-friendly washing up couldn’t be easier with this coconut husk scourer, the sustainable alternative to plastic scrubbing brushes or metal scourers.

  • A brilliant plastic-free alternative to the common kitchen scourer, but with the added bonus of not destroying the environment or the bottom of your lovely pots and pans!

These coconut husk scourers are tough on stains, food residue and hard grease and are made from waste coconut coir and natural rubber latex meaning they are compostable and they do not need to end up in landfill like the majority of other washing up utensils.

Being made from coconut coir also means no micro plastics are being released into our water systems every time you do your washing up.

  • To prolong the life of the coconut husk scourer we recommend you use it for tasks such as cleaning grease and hard grime and then use a normal (but still eco-friendly) kitchen sponge for your other washing up tasks.

As it is compostable, once you would like to replace it you can either put it in your food waste bin, or you can bury it underground or put it in your home compost if you want to speed up the breaking down process.

  • Coconut husk and natural rubber latex.

  • With supermarket shelves stacked with plastic washing up sponge and metal scourers which cannot be recycled, Zero Waste Club wanted to create a great plastic-free alternative. This coconut husk scourer is made entirely from natural ingredients- coconut coir and natural rubber. So at the end of life it can be composted or placed into your food bin rather than going to landfill, and will not release micro plastics into our waterways.

The coconut husk scourer is made from coconut coir which is a waste product of coconut harvesting; this provides an additional source of income to the coconut farmers in India for something which previously would have been discarded.

Zero Waste Club are intent on ensuring good incomes for anyone creating their products, as well as good working conditions. The scourers are produced in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu State in India. The minimum wage in the state is 8000 INR per month, the team who make these bags are paid on average double the minimum wage at 16,000 INR per month. They work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and have all public holidays off.

The scourers are 100% plastic free and 100% vegan friendly as no animals have been killed or harmed in the making of them. They are shipped via sea freight to minimise the carbon footprint of each product and to help offset the CO2, for each and every item that is purchased, Zero Waste Club plants a tree.
