When it comes to washing your silks or delicates we know it can be extremely nerve wracking as they have often come with a bit of a price tag, so this No.4 silk detergent from Clothes Doctor is a must have to help retain the wonderful properties in any of your delicate garments whilst thoroughly cleaning and refreshing them.
The silk detergent is naturally fragranced with pure water-based fragrances of patchouli and bergamot, which not only leave your precious items smelling floral and aromatic, but are ingredients which were used by our ancestors to keep silk refreshed. Patchouli and bergamot were historically used to pack between layers of silk during transportation along the Silk Road.
This silk wash is completely Vegan friendly and the detergent itself is plastic free, as is all its packaging. Contained in a fully recyclable aluminium bottle and housed in fully recyclable packaging, you can give your treasured items the care they need whilst caring for the planet.
Before you wash your silk or delicate garments it is important you check them for any details or structures such as pleats or unusual textured finishes. These are more easily damaged or can end up misshapen when washed.
If you are washing an item which is brand new, especially if there is more than one colour in the fabric, it is advised that you dry clean it for the first time.
It is recommended to hand wash silks or delicate items. Fill your sink with cool water and pour in 2-3 capfuls per garment. Swirl the water around the make sure the detergent is fully mixed in. Before washing make sure you turn the garments inside out and ideally wash each item separately so there is no chance of the colours running into one another. Every time you hand wash an item it is likely you will see a little dye come out in the water, don’t worry- this is perfectly normal.
Gently stir the water and leave the garments for around 15 minutes (no longer than 30) before finally rinsing each garment thoroughly with fresh cool water. Some colour left in the water is to be expected.
To machine wash pour 2-3 capfuls of the silk detergent into the machine drawer and choose a delicate wash setting. Remove the items promptly at the end of the cycle and dry by pressing gently but don't wring the clothes out.
Any washing of 'dry clean only' items at home is done so at your own risk. Please do not consume any of the detergent and thoroughly rinse your eyes if splashed.
